GoldMoney is a Digital Gold Currency (DGC) and precious metal bailment service founded in 2001 by James Turk. Its purpose is to allow customers to save in gold and also to pay in gold.

As of April 2011 it holds over US$2.1 billion of precious metals & currencies owned by 18,352 customers.

The GoldMoney Foundation is a non-profit institution dedicated to the advocacy of sound money and the remonetization of precious metals.

Suspension

In December 2011 GoldMoney announced that from the 21st of January 2012 it would suspend its DGC, which allowed its over 21.000 users to make P2P payments in gold and silver. The company cited regulation and lack of interest.[1]
