An international marriage agency is a service that helps people from different countries find compatible mates, with the intention of becoming acquainted and possibly marrying. The women who use these services are sometimes called "mail order brides," but this term does not accurately describe the reality of these situations. By the same reasoning that people call these women mail order brides because they met their husbands through personals ads, one might call a spouse one met at a grocery store a retail product.[citation needed]
