Lyndon Baines Johnson (August 27, 1908 – January 22, 1973) was the 36th President of the United States, inaugurated following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He greatly expanded the welfare/warfare state in the United States through escalation of the Vietnam War and his "Great Society" legislation that included "War on Poverty" programs.
Presidency
Lyndon B. Johnson was inaugurated on November 22, 1963 after the death of President John F. Kennedy.
Domestic Policy
On July 2, 1964, Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
