Self-fulfilling prophecy

A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that comes true because people believe it will come true. An example is when members of a political movement say, "Our candidate has no chance of winning," and then do not bother to offer him enough support to ensure his victory, when they would have contributed enough support to achieve their goal if they had believed victory was possible.
