William Stanley Jevons (1835 – 1882) was a British economist. He was particularly known for discovering the marginal utility approach in price theory, at the same time as Léon Walras and Carl Menger.

He is also notable for popularizing the Essai, a largely unnoticed magnum opus of Richard Cantillon, which Jevons declared to be, "more emphatically than any other single work, the Cradle of Political Economy".[1]
