Copyright

There is something that bugs me about this phrase "copyright violations" - it is conventional but it seems to hint at a concession that a copyright is like a real right and can somehow be violated. I strongly urge that all such language come off the Mises Wiki. What we really mean to say that we ask that people comply, insofar as possible, with existing laws and regulations concerning copyright. I would far prefer such a statement. --Jatucker 08:35, 10 November 2010 (CST)

Excellent point. A couple things:
  • The text just above the edit summary field currently says "Do not submit copyrighted work without permission!" Is this acceptable, or would other wording be preferable?
  • I edited MisesWiki:Copyrights to include a line similar to what you added to this page, with a bit more explanation. Feel free to make improvements there as well.

I was initially put off by that wording, which seems to embed all kinds of ethical assumptions, so perhaps we can just stick to the more important issue of prudence with a statement like the above: "We ask that people comply, insofar as possible, with existing laws and regulations concerning copyright." by the way, there is a very good chart on copyright laws that helps people make decisions. I've changed MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning2 to reflect your wording. It may take a few days or weeks before all existing users see it, however, because of page caching. New users will see the new wording, and existing users can go to that page and refresh the page several times to see it as well. I've also added a link to that flow chart to WikiMises:Copyrights. --Forgottenman (talk) 11:33, 10 November 2010 (CST)

Website header

I think that the fact that they put a link to the wiki in the header that's seen throughout all of Mises.org shows some confidence in and support for the wiki. Hopefully we live up to it. Nathan Larson (talk) 04:25, 14 July 2012 (MSD)

Space in the middle of Mises Wiki

Do we want to call the wiki Mises Wiki or MisesWiki? If the former, then we should change MediaWiki:Pagetitle and MediaWiki:Pagetitle-view-mainpage accordingly, and perhaps rename the PROJECT and PROJECT_TALK namespaces as well, perhaps by changing $wgSitename. See also mw:Manual:$wgMetaNamespace and mw:Manual:$wgMetaNamespaceTalk. Nathan Larson (talk) 00:33, 30 July 2012 (MSD)

Updated Administrators Section

I updated the administrator information as of today for this page. This information could very well be transcluded from the MisesWiki:Administrators page to keep the Project:About page focused on the wiki project itself. GMedich (talk) 06:29, 28 December 2013 (MSK)

Sounds like a good idea. Nathan Larson (talk) 00:55, 29 December 2013 (MSK)

Developmental stages

"Mises Wiki is still in its developmental stages, and as such, it does not have firm rules." Maybe we should get rid of that, since we might give the impression that this is one of those permanent betas of the sort that Google used to have? On the other hand, we still don't have a lot of firm rules, since we tend to go by the norms of the rest of the wikisphere. Leucosticte (talk) 18:45, 25 January 2014 (EST)
