Collapsible tables

It might actually be possible for a sysop to fix those, perhaps by updating some of the pages in the MediaWiki namespace. See mw:Manual:Using content from Wikipedia. We use Vector; what about MediaWiki:Vector.js and MediaWiki:Vector.css? Nathan Larson (talk) 08:21, 7 August 2012 (MSD)

Looking at the code on those pages at Wikipedia (which you recommended on the project page here), I'm not seeing how that would fix the issue. The w:MediaWiki:Vector.css doesn't seem to include any code that would affect the tables. And the w:MediaWiki:Vector.js doesn't contain any code at all. As in, there is literally nothing to cut and paste. Could you point out what it is specifically that you think will fix the issue? --John James (talk) 01:45, 14 August 2012 (MSD)
Eek, looks like you're right about both. I must be smoking crack. It appears that it is indeed a Common.js issue, since I went to my wiki, updated its MediaWiki:Common.js with enwiki's Common.js, and then the show/hide buttons appeared and worked. Nathan Larson (talk) 18:30, 16 August 2012 (MSD)
We have a few different configurations than Wikipedia, and Wikipedia has code in there for things we don't have here, so simply copy and pasting their whole page and overwriting our own just to try and fix one issue is not a good option, nor is it ever really a wise practice...particularly for pages related to functionality of the entire wiki. I'll have a look. --John James (talk) 03:25, 18 August 2012 (MSD)

UPDATE: I also discovered the wiki isn't currently supporting sorting in tables either (or at least these features are not showing in the tables.) From what I understand, as of the later installations of wiki, these elements are supposed to be allowed through jQuery plugins, and the JavaScript code is loaded by the ResourceLoader as a default module...

Looking here you can see how the JQuerys where simply created and tested locally before being deployed. I tried installing them locally on our wiki in the same fashion, but it didn't change anything. --John James (talk) 23:09, 9 September 2012 (MSD)

MW Globe

"Insert Mises Wiki Globe into the top left corner, as the logo of the Mises Wiki" There's a certain logic to that, since the globe is the emblem of our wiki, we don't seem to be using the globe for much else, and globes are traditionally what people use for $wgLogo. On the other hand, isn't there something to be said for keeping the ribbon uniform across all of mises.org? Then again, maybe it's good to have the globe appear when people are using the wiki, as a cue to remind them where they are. Nathan Larson (talk) 12:14, 7 August 2012 (MSD)

Problems with Firefox?

Recently (i.e. for about the past week), when I have been attempting to view Mises Wiki using Firefox, it's either been displaying in a weird non-graphical (i.e. all-text) format or has been directing me to bastiat.mises.org or the "page not found" page (the one that says "Oops, that link appears to be incorrect..."). Or it says "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." That may be because for some reason Firefox keeps wanting to go to the https version rather than the http, even when I type http into the address bar. (Some links I have been trying include https://wiki.mises.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges and https://wiki.mises.org/ .)

Not sure why that is; I tried using the http address with two different computers running Firefox, and it kept wanting to go to the https. Anyway, shouldn't it work with either? Some users might want to use the wiki more securely.

I switched to Google Chrome and it's working fine with that browser. Nathan Larson (talk) 18:50, 12 August 2012 (MSD)

Yeah, the problem is reported but it's unsolved for the moment at least. :/ Pestergaines (talk) 23:00, 12 August 2012 (MSD)

Strange issue

Try typing a nonexistent user subpage, say, User:YourUserName/TestPage into the searchbar. Then you get "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or edit this page." Then click "search for this page title." It will then prompt, "Create the page "YourUserName/TestPage" on this wiki!" I.e., it will prompt you to create a mainspace page, when you had typed in a userspace page. A solution could be "don't do that then"; don't search for it, but rather click on "edit this page". I've never seen that issue before on any other wiki. It appears as though the kittens selection is no longer required and we now just have the common captcha. Can an LvMI developer confirm this was intentional and update the page with the changes made and summary of the current status? --John James (talk) 18:25, 4 October 2012 (MSD)

On 2 October 2012, Dave Veksler posted about it on the Google Groups list:
I just switched from Assira to ReCaptha. Does it work?

Does it work?

Can we re-enable new users accounts? I don't know how registration was disabled - I don't see anything in LocalSettings.

Can I give someone who knows MediaWiki server access?

I guess he's given up on Asirra, so perhaps MediaWiki:Nologin can be reverted to what it used to say. Nathan Larson (talk) 11:24, 5 October 2012 (MSD)

Update: Asirra has been fixed. The issue was probably that the extension was stored in extensions/ConfirmEdit/Asirra rather than extensions/Asirra. Nathan Larson (talk) 15:57, 5 October 2012 (MSD)

"There is an issue with the symbol that is supposed to separate the info at the footer of the wiki, causing blocks to show up. (Scroll to very bottom of page, look at the contact info for the LvMI)" What kind of blocks? Are you referring to those diamonds with question marks? I thought that was a feature.
