Talk:Short (finance)

Article name
Is there a specific reason the title of this article is different from the one on Wikipedia? The naming convention there is set up that way for a reason. While "short selling" does redirect to that page, the article name is "Short (finance)" for a few reasons. Just off hand,
- It makes for a more accurate representation of the article content, as the term "short" can be a copular verb, referring to the position one has taken on an investment, a transitive verb, referring to what you are doing to the investment, or a noun, referring to the action itself.
- It keeps with naming conventions in the designation of an article name that requires disambiguation.
- It helps prevent confusion with the process by the same name that takes place in the real estate field.
To deal with number 3 for now, I used a hatnote, but I think using the title the way Wikipedia does would be preferable, as the real estate usage is just as common and valid as the finance usage. --John James 05:34, 17 November 2011 (MSK)
- You're right, I wanted to use the better known name short selling, but completely missed the other meaning. I'll move the page, thanks! Pestergaines 16:12, 17 November 2011 (MSK)
